With
its efficient network of hospitality, Monterosso Almo today represents
a well organised tourist attraction and, at the same time, constitutes
a key scientific and cultural reference point.
Among
the delights of this ancient mountain comune, surrounded by suggestive
wood and cherry orchards (known as the raffiuni), stands the Astronomical
Observatory. This complex structure, built by C.O.P.A.I. in collaboration
with the council and private organisations, is moderm and well equipped
and features particularly sophisticated lenses on the viewing apparatus.
It
is thus an "attraction" for the scientific and cultural
community yet is accessible to all and has been set up to meet the
needs of students, enthusiasts, the curious layman and scholars
alike.
Everyone
will be able to appreciate the Observatory's functions, enhanced
by the possibility of transmitting its telescope-captured images
via satellite. Internet makes "global" diffusion of the
gathered material a concrete reality. Stars can be photographed,
with "souvenir" copies for all: thus everyone, from his/her
own home, can dream the stars of Sicily, even at midday.
