Pozzallo
(33 km from Ragusa; 18,000 inhabitants; 20 m. a.s.l.; zip code 97016,
area code 0932) is the only sea-municipality in the province, and
is extended on a beautiful, attractive and very frequented shore.
The
importance of Pozzallo dates from the 14th century, the town representing
a military and commercially strategic point of the County of Modica.
There, in fact, the Count wanted the construction of a "Caricatore"
(a group of warehouses, equipped and disposed for the load of ships)
around which the earliest district of the village, the "Quartiere
Scaro" rose. This is very characteristic in its smallest and
strict alleys.
The
rest of the town shows, on the contrary, a very functional and modern
structure, set on an orthogonal urban plan.
